Mega deals for Boeing and Airbus planes kick off show
The airline has signed a 15-year service contract with the company, which includes maintenance costs on a dollar per engine flight hour basis.
Exuberant Gulf carriers celebrated the opening day of the Dubai Airshow with blockbuster deals worth a combined $196 billion, with Dubai’s iconic airline Emirates re-writing civil aviation history again by placing orders worth $99 billion.
The opening day’s unprecedented order value far surpassed previous record of $155 billion set in 2007.
Launched in April 2004, the 787 family received its 1,000th order in approximately nine years.
The event opened at a new purpose-built site at Dubai World Central, which last month saw the opening of Al Maktoum International Airport for passengers.
The commitment, valued at $11.4 billion at list prices, is the largest ever Boeing single-aisle airplane purchase in the Middle East.
The order represents an investment of up to US$ 25.2 billion at list prices, including related engines.
The order cements Emirates’ status as the single largest operator of the double-deckers.
The order was part of a deal including options for 26 planes, with a total value of $25.2 billion,
